There are moments in life when one encounters a story so gentle and hopeful that it feels almost like the opening chapter of a novel.
Allow me to introduce Namaya and her remarkable puppies: Moon, Ziggy, Fleur, Luna, Prana, Habibi, Xingxing, Aura, and Soleil.
When I first encountered Namaya, she was heavily pregnant and in a state of great distress. She had been born into the life of a Taiwanese street dog, where survival is rarely easy and every day demands resilience, caution, and a good measure of luck. Not long after she was brought to safety, Namaya gave birth to these beautiful puppies.
From their very first days, there was something quietly extraordinary about them.
The puppies themselves have never known the dangers that so often define the lives of street dogs. Instead, they were born into warmth, protection, and the promise of care. Watching them grow has been a daily reminder that even the most uncertain beginnings may lead to something hopeful.
They are lively, thoughtful, curious little characters, each with a personality that is beginning to unfold in delightful ways. Above all, they are Formosan Mountain Dogs, an ancient and remarkable lineage believed to have lived alongside humans for thousands of years. These dogs were never created for fashion or convenience. They are intelligent, loyal, perceptive companions whose history stretches far beyond our modern ideas of breeds.
To watch them run, explore, and discover the world together is to remember something simple yet profound: that the bond between humans and dogs is among the oldest friendships we possess.
Here in Sandringham, we are devoted to creating a sanctuary for these extraordinary dogs. We are working towards their forever home—a place where they will always be loved, protected, and allowed to grow into the remarkable animals they are meant to be.
Their journey is only just beginning, and it is a privilege to share it.
